Nine people died and 40 were wounded during a funeral at a Greek Orthodox church in the village of Hamoud on Friday. The gunfire lasted for several minutes before the attack ended.

Jordanian security forces arrested three armed suspects on Monday. State television reported that the men were hiding in an abandoned house in Karak governorate, located about 120 kilometers southwest of Amman.

The Public Security Directorate stated that the suspects refused to surrender and opened fire on officers. Security personnel returned fire, wounding the men before taking them into custody. Officials said no security personnel were injured during the exchange.

Officers recovered several firearms and ammunition from the three men. The directorate has not released the names of the suspects or identified specific ties to Islamist militant organizations.

Authorities described the attack as the work of extremist terrorists, though no group has claimed responsibility. King Abdullah, a key United States partner, ordered security forces to respond with an iron fist to the rare assault on the country's Christian minority.

Interior Minister Mazen al-Faraya said authorities are examining the circumstances that pushed young people toward extremism. He added that anyone found to have taken part in the attack would be held accountable.
