Jay-Z will perform at the 2027 Super Bowl halftime show. The NFL, Apple Music, and Roc Nation made the announcement Monday night. The performance is scheduled for Feb. 14 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. A short video accompanied the release, showing the rapper sitting in the stadium surrounded by goats. The caption read, "GOAT's out of the bag."
The news follows days of public speculation. Jay-Z recently concluded his "Jay-Z 30" concert tour in Southern California. That run began with three shows at Yankee Stadium in New York and continued in London. His partnership with the NFL began in 2019. At that time, Roc Nation began advising on and helping produce the league's entertainment presentations.
When the partnership started, Jay-Z told NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell he was not interested in performing. He said, "If this is about me performing at the Super Bowl, then we can just end this conversation now." Seven years later, he accepted the invitation. His Roc Nation has produced halftime shows for other artists during that period. Past performers have included Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, Kendrick Lamar, and The Weeknd.
Jay-Z, born Shawn Carter, holds 25 Grammy Awards from 89 nominations. That total is the second-highest in history, behind only his wife, Beyonce. Beyonce has performed at two Super Bowls. Jay-Z's catalog includes albums like "Reasonable Doubt," "The Blueprint," and "The Black Album." He also recorded hit songs such as "Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem)," "99 Problems," and "Empire State of Mind" with Alicia Keys.
The Grammy Hall of Fame inducted his 1996 debut album, "Reasonable Doubt," last year. He co-founded Roc-A-Fella Records and founded Roc Nation in 2008. He became the first rapper inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2017. He joined the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2021.
His most recent Super Bowl appearance involved Bad Bunny. After that performance in February, Bad Bunny's songs moved up streaming charts and playlists. The next morning, the Puerto Rican artist held the top six spots on Spotify's Top 50 U.S. chart. Another Bad Bunny song ranked at No. 8. Eleven other of his tracks were in the Top 50 at that time.
Jay-Z's next major live appearance will be in Inglewood. The show will air during the Super Bowl halftime break. Roc Nation will handle production duties for the event, continuing the partnership established in 2019. The announcement confirms his return to the center of the stadium's main stage.
